‘The Mouth’ of RED to present at IBC
Ted Schilowitz has announced that he will be showing off the latest developments in the RED world surrounding the EPIC at IBC in September.
He will present on The Foundry stand 7.J18 at these times:
- Friday, Sept. 10th at 4:15pm
- Sunday Sept 12th at 4:00pm
- Monday Sept 13th at 11:30am
- Tuesday Sept 14th at 11:00am
Presentations and workflow discussions are planned with a for a close up look at the EPIC and discussions on native R3D Post Production, VFX and Compositing with the Foundry solutions.
This will be followed by a demonstration of STORM, The Foundry’s tool to assist RED Digital Cinema camera production workflows by Peter Majtan.
Peter and Nick Shaw will be joining STORM product designer James Wilson on The Foundry’s stand to demo STORM.

The Foundry is experienced in delivering flexible, cross-platform applications. Developing plug-ins for very different hosts including Flame, After Effects or Shake across Mac, PC and Linux has taught us many lessons. Delivering Nuke and, more recently, Mari cross-platform has taught us even more.

What the STORM team has been up to since NAB, and plans for IBC
NAB 2010 was a big event for STORM, far bigger than we had planned. Our original objective was to invite a small number of people in the industry to see an early demo so that we could solicit feedback. We wanted to know whether the folks at the sharp end thought STORM was needed, what features they liked or not, and what they thought was missing. In the end we were swamped by requests for demos. So much so that we attracted some negative comments for being “secretive”.

The Foundry showed an early prototype of STORM at NAB 2010, if you did not see it, this is what you missed.
STORM is a new product from The Foundry that assists the digital movie camera workflow by acting as a hub: providing access to both metadata and original raw image files throughout the production process. Initially targeted at RED workflows, we will extend it to other digital cameras, metadata rich EXRs and other sources of metadata in the near future.

STORM will be easy to use, and can be relied upon by a large proportion of the multitude of people in the production, and post-production, team.
STORM came about, because The Foundry recognised that digital movie camera workflows had become unnecessarily complex. We didn’t think the workflow should be that difficult so set out to create a tool which would enhance the creative process rather than hindering it. Read More »
